Cat on a Hot Tin Roof plays
final performance on Broadway


The all African-American production of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, will play its final performance at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre on 22 Jun 2008 as scheduled. When the play closes it will have played 25 previews and 124 regular performance.

Directed by Debbie Allen, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof opened at the Broadhurst Theatre on 6 Mar 2008, following previews from 12 Feb 2008.

The drama opened to mixed reviews: "An outstanding revival." (New York Theatre Guide); "Flabby revival." (New York Times); "Hit-and-miss." (New York Daily News); "Has satisfying power." (New York Post); "The real, electrifying thing." (Star-Ledger); "Lopsided and often wrongheaded." (New York Sun); "Brings to highly kinetic life." (Bloomberg); "Distinctly disheveled production ." (Journal-News); "Uneven production...Subtle, it's not." (Associated Press)' and "Resembles nothing so much as a raucous family sitcom." (Hollywood Reporter).

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof features Anika Noni Rose (Maggie), Terrence Howard (Brick), Phylicia Rashad (Big Mama), James Earl Jones (Big Daddy) and Giancarlo Esposito (Gooper).

Hypocrisy, greed and secret passions threaten to tear apart a wealthy but dysfunctional Mississippi family in Tennessee Williams' stunning American masterpiece. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof portrays the larger-than-life characters of Maggie "the Cat" (Anika Noni Rose), her alcoholic husband, Brick (Boris Kodjoe), and the dominating family patriarch, Big Daddy (James Earl Jones).

The creative team features: Ray Klausen (sets), Jane Greenwood (costumes), William Grant III (lighting) and John H. Shivers (sound).

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was produced on Broadway by Front Row Productions and Stephen C. Byrd with Alia M. Jones.
