The Broadway production of the Harvey Fierstein/John Bucchino musical, A Catered Affair has posted early closing notices and will play its final performance at the Walter Kerr Theatre on 27 Jul 2008 - the musical had been booking through to 12 Oct 2008. When the show closes it will have played 27 previews and 116 regular performances.

“Our team set out to create a new form of musical storytelling,” said Fierstein. “What we achieved was raw, honest, emotionally daring theater. I couldn't be prouder of A Catered Affair. And, from all indications, the show will have a long and prosperous life in every sort of venue around the globe. That ain't chopped liver!”

Producer Roth added, “A Catered Affair stands as a jewel among musicals. Thanks to the brave work of all involved, it will live on in our audiences who are so deeply moved at every performance, in our magnificent original cast album and in future productions around the world.”

The new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein and score by John Bucchino opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on 17 Apr 2008, following previews fro, 25 Mar 2008.

Prior to Broadway, the new musical inaugurated the 2007-8 Season at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre (where the show received 7 San Diego Critics Circle Awards, including Best Musical). On Broadway, A Catered Affair received the Drama League’s 2008 Best Musical Award and 12 Drama Desk Award nominations under the direction of Tony Award-winner John Doyle.
