'Sally & Tom' sets complete Off-Broadway cast
The Public Theater presents the New York premiere of the latest play by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks, with performances set to begin in March.
The Public Theater has named the complete cast for Sally & Tom, a New York-premiere play by Suzan-Lori Parks. The show is set to run from March 28 to April 28, with opening night on April 16.
The complete cast of Sally & Tom includes Sun Mee Chomet as Scout/Polly, Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert as Mike/Tom, Leland Fowler as Devon/Nathan, Sheria Irving as Luce/Sally, Grammy and Emmy winner Kristolyn Lloyd as Maggie/Mary, Alano Miller as Kwame/James, Kate Nowlin as Ginger/Patsy, and Daniel Petzold as Geoff/Cooper/Colonel Carey/Mr. Tobias.
The creative team, led by director Steve H. Broadnax III, includes scenic designer Riccardo Hernández, costume designer Rodrigo Muñoz, lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, sound designer and composer Dan Moses Schreier, fight and intimacy directors Kelsey Rainwater and Michael Rossmy, and dramaturg Jesse Cameron Alick.
Sally & Tom follows a theatre troupe putting on a play about Sally Hemmings and Thomas Jefferson — played respectively by an actress and her romantic partner, who doubles as the show's director. Things naturally go awry in this dark comedy about power, art, politics, and how they all collide and contradict.
Parks's play premiered at Minneapolis's Guthrie Theater in the 2022-23 theatre season. That same season, she premiered a new musical, The Harder They Come, at the Public, and her Pulitzer Prize-winning play Topdog/Underdog had its first Broadway revival.
