Amber Ruffin joins the Broadway creative team of 'Some Like It Hot' as co-writer
The writer, performer, and host of 'The Amber Ruffin Show,' will join Matthew López in co-adapting the MGM film for Broadway.
Emmy-nominated writer and performer Amber Ruffin will join the creative team of the new Broadway musical Some Like It Hot, the Shubert Organization and Neil Meron announced today. Ruffin joins playwright Matthew López as the co-adaptor of the classic MGM film for the stage. The musical is scheduled to begin performances on Broadway in 2022.
"I am so thrilled to be working with real Broadway legends Matthew López, Casey Nicholaw, Marc Shaiman, and Scott Wittman on this honestly groundbreaking project," Ruffin said in a statement. "This is truly a different kind of musical and I can't wait for people to see it!"
Ruffin is a comedian, writer, and performer, and she is the host of The Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock TV. She was the first African-American woman to write for a late-night show in the United States as a writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Some Like It Hot is based on the MGM classic starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. The musical will be directed by Casey Nicholaw, with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
