Manhattan Theatre Club's 'Golden Shield' sets full Off-Broadway cast
Anchuli Felicia King's play begins performances April 26.
Golden Shield, the next show in Manhattan Theatre Club's season at New York City Center Stage I, has announced its full Off-Broadway cast. Anchuli Felicia King's play starts performances April 26 ahead of a May 17 opening night, and the show runs through June 12.
The ensemble cast includes Cindy Cheung, Fang Du, Kristen Hung, Daniel Jenkins, Michael C. Liu, Max Gordon Moore, Ruibo Qian and Gillian Saker. The creative team has also been named, including set designer dots, costume designer Sara Ryung Clement, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, and sound designers and original music composers Charles Coes and Nathan A. Roberts.
May Adrales directs the American premiere of Golden Shield, a play that originated in Australia. The show centers on an American lawyer, Julie Chen, and her sister Eva. Julie files a class-action lawsuit involving a global tech company and the Chinese government, and Eva acts as Julie's translator for the legal proceedings. They have to put aside past differences and make compromises, though, to speak the same language — in more ways than one — and win the case.
