Weezer cancels Broadway residency
The band was supposed to play five concerts in September.
Weezer has reportedly canceled its planned Broadway residency. It was previously announced that the Los Angeles-based rock band would play five concerts in New York, from September 13-18, to promote their EP series SZNZ.
As reported by Billboard, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo first shared the news on the chat site Discord, and later reposted the message to Reddit. "I just learned that our Broadway shows have been cancelled (due to low ticket sales and unbelievably high expenses). I'm very sorry to be telling you this now after we've already invested so much time, though, and emotion. Extra apologies to those of you who cleared schedules and made travel plans to be with us."
The concerts were set to be at the Broadway Theatre, with one concert each dedicated to each of the four EPs in the series (Spring, Summer, and the yet-unreleased Autumn and Winter) and the final concert a sampling of them all, alongside the band's greatest career hits.
