Weezer to play five-night Broadway residency
The rock band will perform songs from their new EP series, SZNZ.
They're going from "Beverly Hills" to New York City! The Grammy-winning rock band Weezer will have a five-night residency on Broadway this fall. Performances run at the Broadway Theatre from September 13 to 18.
The residency is tied to Weezer's SZNZ project, a series of EPs based on the seasons. The first installment, SZNZ: Spring, was released on the vernal equinox, and the next installment, SZNZ: Summer, was released today on the summer solstice. The autumn and winter installments will be released on the first days of their respective seasons.
On each of the five nights of the Broadway residency, Weezer will perform a different EP. Spring will be on September 13, Summer on the 14th, Autumn on the 16th, and Winter on the 17th. (There is no concert on September 15.) The final night, September 18, will be an encore featuring songs from each installment. Each concert will also include "a unique set of Weezer classics," according to the show.
Weezer was formed in 1992 and has been active ever since, releasing 15 studio albums, 3 compilation albums, and 7 EPs (including the first two SZNZ EPs) since then. The band has received five Grammy nominations, winning one in 2009 for Best Music Video.
The band members are Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals, keyboards); all will appear in the Broadway residency.
