Experience Real Women Have Curves on Broadway and follow Ana Garcia and her family on an amazing journey of discovery, laughs, and self-love. Set in the summer of 1987, Ana Garcia dreams of flying away from East Los Angeles. However, life has other plans: when her family’s garment business receives a make-or-break order for 200 dresses, Ana finds herself wrestling with her own ambitions, her mother’s expectations, and a community of women all trying to make it work against the odds.
An inspiring and hilarious story about the choices we make to become our best selves while still supporting the community around us, Real Women Have Curves “makes us feel we can all soar” per WBUR.
Performances begin April 1 but this show is new joke — it’s an “outstanding production,” says The Boston Globe, and it has the goods to back it up: López's play and the 2002 HBO film. The film starred Oscar nominee America Ferrera in her feature film debut and gained fame after winning the Audience Award for best dramatic film and the Special Jury Prize for acting in the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.
Now, the play will make new stars in this fresh production directed and choreographed by Tony winner Sergio Trujillo (On Your Feet). Tickets to Real Women Have Curves in New York will be available here soon.

It’s the summer of 1987, and Ana Garcia dreams of flying away from East Los Angeles. But when a major order comes in for her family’s garment business, plans don’t exactly fall into place. This is a joyous and uplifting musical based on Josefina López's play and the 2002 film.
A few samples of tracks have already been released, and audiences can expect soaring ballads, ensemble numbers featuring the Garcia family, and a strong throughline of Latin music that speaks to the characters’ cultural background.
This is a new musical making its Broadway debut, but out-of-town reviews were glowing, including from The Boston Globe and that city’s radio station, WBUR.
While this is a musical comedy about a family, Broadway audiences must be four and older to enter the theatre.
Lisa Loomer wrote the book based on the play by Josefina López and screenplay by López and George LaVoo. Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez wrote the songs.
Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo (On Your Feet, Memphis, Ain't Too Proud) directs and choreographs this Broadway premiere.
