Widely considered as the play that launched Arthur Miller as the moral voice of the American Theater, Roundabout Theatre Company presents a new Broadway revival of All My Sons, scheduled to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on April 4, 2019, ahead of an official opening on April 22. Marking the powerful drama's third revival on the Great White Way, much of the buzz that surrounded its announcement in September 2018 centred around the central casting of Golden Globe winner and Oscar, Tony & Emmy Award nominee Annette Bening in the role of Kate Keller, alongside Tony Award winner Tracy Letts as Joe Keller.
Ms. Bening, widely adored for her prolific film career with credits such as "American Beauty," "The Kids Are All Right," "Being Julia," "20th Century Women," "The American President," and "The Grifters" to her name, hasn't been seen on Broadway since 1987; her Tony-nominated Broadway debut in Tina Howe's Coastal Disturbances. Her return to the New York stage is a rare opportunity to see one of the silver screen's true icons up close and personal in one of Broadway's more intimate theatres. Sharing the stage with a man who is as talented with a pen in hand as he is in front of a camera or an audience only sweetens the deal. Of course, we're referring to the multi-talented Tracy Letts, whose playwriting accolades include both a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for August: Osage County, as well as Pulitzer Prize nominations for Man from Nebraska and The Minutes, and who has done fine work in establishing himself as a formidable actor of both the stage (winning a Tony Award in 2013 for his performance as George in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) and screen (including a memorable role as Andrew Lockhart on Showtime's "Homeland").
In February 2019 it was also announced that Benjamin Walker would be completing the Keller family as Chris Keller. Mr. Walker has previously wowed audiences with celebrated performances in the title role of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and his last Broadway venture as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, and is the perfect choice to give new life to this trio of a family whose secrets are unearthed in Miller's heart-wrenching play and spread like wildfire, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.
All My Sons is arguably the most iconic of the Arthur Miller canon, alongside classics such as A View from the Bridge, The Crucible, and Death of a Salesman, sharing the theme of the illusion of the American Dream with the latter. Roundabout Theatre Company has assembled a stellar cast and creative team, worthy of the material and able to do justice to its timeless merit.
