The Nosebleed is a play that doubles as an autobiography, a memorial, and a memory play. Ogawa has written, directs, and stars in this show that centers on their relationship with their father, who has been dead for a while. He was as much of an enigma in life as in death, and Ogawa's play retrospectively tries to decipher him and his lasting effects on their life. The Nosebleed unfolds as a series of vignettes, as emotional and ridiculous as they are funny, that shows the passing down of failure through generations. But it also explores the reverse of that: passing down and returning forgiveness. Ultimately, Ogawa's exploration of the generational gap between them and their father informs how they approach motherhood themselves.

Before the debut of The Nosebleed off Broadway, Ogawa premiered the show at the The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival in 2019, following it up with a 2021 production co-presented by Japan Society and the Chocolate Factory. The show is also set to go up with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. in 2023. They are also developing a play titled Meat Suit: the shitshow that is motherhood and a one-person adaptation of Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. That project is being done together with Saori Tsukada and features new music by Philip Glass, a versatile composer whose opera Akhnaten is at The Metropolitan Opera in 2022.

Previously in New York, Ogawa has directed productions of Haruna Lee’s Obie Award-winning Suicide Forest and Maiko Kikuchi and Spencer Lott’s 9000 Paper Balloons, and they have published translations of multiple Japanese plays into English. Ogawa's entire body of work reflects the international and immigrant experience — they were born in Tokyo and raised in Brooklyn — as well as the experiences of women and non-binary people.
