About Dark Disabled Stories

The Politician's Ryan J. Haddad makes his Off-Broadway writing debut with Dark Disabled Stories, his newest autobiographical show following the critically acclaimed Hi, Are You Single? Get Dark Disabled Stories tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

In the Dark Disabled Stories play, Haddad shares true, often darkly comedic, stories from his lifetime of navigating a world that is often inaccessible to him, as a man with cerebral palsy who uses a walker. He talks about his encounters with various strangers during such situations, tackling topics of ableism and the unspoken assumptions everyone makes about others.

American Sign Language, open captions, and audio descriptions are included in every performance of Dark Disabled Stories off Broadway.

Haddad's last autobiographical play, Hi, Are You Single?, premiered at The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival for new plays in 2017, and it most recently went up virtually with Washington, D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in 2021. In that show, called "one of the most thought-provoking plays of the season" by MD Theatre Guide, he shared stories about navigating the gay dating scene as a man with a disability, including the judgments that he himself was also prone to make about others.

Haddad is also known for his recurring TV role as Andrew Cashman on Netflix's The Politician, opposite Ben Platt. He has also appeared on TV in Bull, Madam Secretary, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Jordan Fein directs Dark Disabled Stories in New York. Previously, he assistant directed Privacy, starring Daniel Radcliffe, at the Public, and directed Rags Parkland Sings the Songs of the Future at Ars Nova.
