It also features multiple Kander and Ebb tunes that the movie made famous, including the title track, which Frank Sinatra turned into a mainstream hit. That is where the similarities end.

What is the New York, New York musical about?

Scorsese's film centered on a troubled couple played by Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro, but neither of their characters appear in the stage adaptation. This version, written by David Thompson and Sharon Washington, features a new set of characters that includes artists, musicians, actors, and more trying to make it big as the city bounces back. The show promises a big-band sound (which is apt for the 1940s), with a large cast and equally large-scale choreography.

Director/choreographer Susan Stroman is a natural fit for such a show; she's known for her work on other high-energy mega-musicals like The Music Man and Bullets Over Broadway. She is a five-time Tony winner, four times for choreography (The Producers, Contact, Show Boat, Crazy for You) and once for direction (The Producers).
