About Tennessee Williams's The Night of the Iguana

See a star-studded cast in a rare revival of a Tennessee Williams masterpiece for three months only. Emily Mann directs Tim Daly, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Lea DeLaria, Austin Pendleton, and Jean Lichty in the stormy The Night of the Iguana from December 6 to February 25 only. Get The Night of the Iguana tickets now.

The Night of the Iguana play is literally stormy, as it takes place during one such night at the cheap Costa Verde Hotel in Acapulco, Mexico. There, an eclectic group collides: the defrocked Reverend Shannon, the lusty hotel owner Maxine, the butch vocal teacher Judith, the 16-year-old Charlotte, the spinster Hannah, and her 97-year-old grandfather Nonno, a poet. As the storm rages on outside, they weather interpersonal and emotional storms of their own, changing all their lives for good.

Williams's play has appeared on Broadway four times, first in 1961 and most recently in 1996. The 2023 production is the first major Off-Broadway revival of The Night of the Iguana. Producer La Femme Theatre Productions first presented this production as a digital benefit reading in 2020, starring Dylan McDermott, Phylicia Rashad, and Roberta Maxwell. Mann, who directed the digital reading, returns to stage the live premiere.

Her cast for The Night of the Iguana off Broadway is just as starry. Emmy Award nominee Tim Daly, known for The Sopranos, leads the cast alongside fellow TV star Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), multihyphenate Austin Pendleton, and Off-Broadway veteran Jean Lichty. A Tony nominee for directing The Little Foxes, he's joined by fellow nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega, known for Anna in the Tropics and Rent.

Mann herself has a storied career, having won a Tony Award for producing Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike on Broadway. She's received an additional four nominations (including one for Anna in the Tropics) and is no stranger to Williams, having directed his A Streetcar Named Desire (also featuring Rubin-Vega) in 2012.
