Directed by Tony Award nominee Jo Bonney, and running at Second Stage Theater for a limited time this spring, Breaking the Story traces the cost of war, and the awards and heroism it has afforded one intrepid journalist.

Experience Breaking the Story off Broadway and enter the fractured world of Marina, a foreign war correspondent torn between her singular lifestyle abroad and a safer, more domestic one at home. Across her celebrated career, Marina has put her life on the line, armed only with a press badge, to shed light on the darkest wartorn areas around the globe.

A recent and bloody trip rattles her, leading Marina to contemplate staying home for good and, finally, settling down with her cameraman turned lover. As a lifetime achievement ceremony draws near, bringing her closest friends and family to town, Marina decides to elope, and try and reclaim her life — no matter how powerfully memories of war still shape it.

What’s more important, a lifelong love or a lifelong career — or can you have both? A dark comedy and fierce drama, Breaking the Story promises a singular theatrical event and a cutting portrait of one contemporary woman as her personal and professional lives collide. Scheer recently made her Broadway debut adapting the book for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bad Cinderella; now she’s back off Broadway with a timely and topical new play. Tickets to Breaking the Story are available now.
