About A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical on Broadway

See A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical on Broadway and hear the king of jazz’s music like never before. James Monroe Iglehart, hot off his hilarious turn in Spamalot and a Tony Award winner for playing the Genie in Aladdin, portrays the late, great Louis Armstrong in this new bio-musical that traces the trumpeter and singer’s one-of-a-kind life and career. Don’t miss this new musical; get A Wonderful World tickets now.

A Wonderful World in New York follows hit runs in New Orleans and Chicago. Set to the unforgettable music of Louis Armstrong, this Broadway musical honors and shares the life of the jazz musician like never before. Known for his hit covers and original songs including "When You're Smiling" and of course, "What a Wonderful World,” Armstrong (aka Pops and Satchmo) was a pioneering Black jazz musician who transcended musical and racial barriers and won great acclaim for his upbeat and soulful tunes.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Armstrong received numerous awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance for Hello, Dolly! in 1965, as well as a posthumous win for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1972. More recently, he was inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.

“American music wouldn’t be what it is today without Louis Armstrong, and what is Broadway if not American music?" Iglehart said in a statement. "‘Pops’ doesn’t get enough credit for his contribution to our entertainment industry or our country. I feel such a strong connection and an obligation to bring his voice, his music, and his story to the one place where it can be presented in all its glory — Broadway!”

The creative team features book writer Aurin Squire (This Is Us) and co-conceivers Andrew Delaplaine and Christopher Renshaw (The King and I, Taboo), who also directs. Tickets to A Wonderful World are available on New York Theatre Guide.
