Get Grangeville tickets and see the latest work by MacArthur "Genius" grant winner Samuel D. Hunter come to Signature Theatre. Brendan Fraser (an Academy Award winner for The Whale) and Brian J. Smith (a Tony Award nominee for The Glass Menagerie) come together in this new play about long-lost half-brothers reuniting. Grangeville tickets will be available soon on New York Theatre Guide.
Lovers of Hunter's intimate, extraordinary plays will delight in experiencing Grangeville off Broadway, playing this winter for a limited run only. In Grangeville, Hunter transports audiences to a place he is closely tied to: the American west, where he situates his two half-brothers, played by Fraser and Smith. Across thousands of miles, vast oceans, and years of hurt, two siblings have isolated themselves from each other, letting old wounds fester as new lives take shape. Now, however, they have a necessary reason to reunite: they must care for their ailing mother. A new play about the unreliability of memory, the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of our suffering, and the gray areas of forgiveness, Grangeville is an exquisite play about the beauty and pain of family.
Hunter is no stranger to crafting small-in-scale but big-in-heart masterpieces that reveal the human condition: he has done so in Lewiston/Clarkston, A Bright New Boise, and of course in The Whale, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film. Now, in his first new play premiere since that film made a splash, he brings Grangeville, directed by Jack Serio and named for a city in Idaho, to Signature.
A Drama Desk and Obie winner, Hunter is one of today's most frequently produced writers and is celebrated for his prolific output of work that centers the lives from the American West, rarely depicted with such humanity and nuance on stage. Tickets to Grangeville will be on New York Theatre Guide soon.
