About McNEAL

Get McNeal tickets and see Academy Award winner Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer) make his Broadway debut in this topical new play from Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar (Disgraced). Broadway veteran and Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) directs this new play, staged at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. The drama is the first Broadway production of Lincoln Center Theater’s 40th anniversary season, making the occasion particularly auspicious. Get McNeal tickets on New York Theatre Guide now.

Experience McNeal on Broadway, which brings together three titans of stage and screen: Downey Jr., Akhtar, and Sher. In this electrifying new play, a world premiere at Lincoln Center, Jacob McNeal is a great writer, one of the world’s greatest, and always a surefire candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, the esteemed writer also has some issues at home: an estranged son, a new novel to complete, old axes to grind, plus an unhealthy fascination with Artificial Intelligence. Good writers borrow, but great writers steal, right? Downey Jr. stars as McNeal in Akhtar’s new play, which offers a startling and wickedly sharp examination of the inescapable humanity – and increasing inhumanity – of the stories we live, tell, and profit from.

Akhtar has long tackled timely issues, as seen with his post-9/11 award-winning drama Disgraced and his recent Broadway hit Junk about the corruption of capitalism. Both of those works were Tony Award nominees for Best Play, and now he pens a new work about the slippery but alluring nature of Artificial Intelligence.

Downey Jr. has long played powerful men, from Iron Man in record-grossing blockbuster films to his recent Oscar-winning turn as Rear Admiral Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. Now, the celebrated actor will be marking his Broadway debut taking on another powerful role: a renowned novelist. Get McNeal tickets now.
