Step back into the 1950s and experience Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway. A riveting play about midcentury American television news, Good Night, and Good Luck follows broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow (Clooney) and Senator Joseph McCarthy, who led the political witch hunt known as the Red Scare.
Clooney directed the original film and played Murrow's co-producer, Fred W. Friendly, opposite David Strathairn as Murrow, Robert Downey Jr. (who will also make his Broadway debut this season in McNeal) as Joseph Wershba, Patricia Clarkson as Shirley Wershba, Frank Langella as William Paley, and Jeff Daniels as Sig Mickelson. The film earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for Clooney and Heslov.
Now, the timely drama about justice and political integrity comes to Broadway with Clooney and Heslov adapting the film for the stage.
“I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to," Clooney said in a statement.
Cromer, known for his powerful yet intimate human portraits, as in The Band’s Visit and The Sound Inside, stages this production and is no stranger to working with celebs on Broadway: he’s previously directed Mary-Louise Parker, Tony Shalhoub, and other starry talents.
