Get The Antiquities tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see this exhilarating new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison, author of Marjorie Prime. A dazzling work that zooms to the future to show us our present, The Antiquities plays at Playwrights Horizons now through February for a limited run only.
What were humans really like? Experience The Antiquities off Broadway to find out. At the Museum of Late Human Antiquities, the curators are deeply committed to bringing a lost civilization to life again: homo sapiens. What were they like, how did they spend their time, why did they die out? Bringing his audiences far, far into the future, Harrison also reveals to them their fractured, confused present. Straddling the analogue world and a post-future one, this revelatory new play provides just as many questions as it does answers.
This is a special play for curious theatergoers; Playwrights Horizons is known for its edgy, probing, and intelligent premieres, like Downstate, Heroes of the Fourth Turning, and A Strange Loop. Buckle up for a ride to the future and a journey into the mind, and hearts, of the humans of our present.
Celebrated director David Cromer (a Tony Award winner for The Band’s Visit) co-directs this production with Caitlin Sullivan. The play is co-produced with the Vineyard Theatre and the Goodman Theatre.
This is not the first time Harrison has looked to the future: Portraying robots who mirror loved ones after they die, “Marjorie Prime, Jordan Harrison’s elegant, thoughtful and quietly unsettling drama, keeps developing in your head, like a photographic negative, long after you’ve seen it,” The New York Times wrote of that hit play, starring Lois Smith, that also originated at Playwrights Horizons. Now, see his newest work: tickets to The Antiquities in New York are available now.
