We Live in Cairo is inspired by the young Egyptian activists who took to the streets amidst the excitement and dangers of the Arab Spring. In this new musical, directed by Obie Award winner Taibi Magar, six student activists — each equipped with unique artist talents including photography, songwriting, and street art — attempt to overthrow a corrupt regime.

A winner of the esteemed Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, this dazzling musical reveals the human lives behind global causes and the price and promise of activism. Journeying from the jubilation of the Tahrir Square protests through the aftermath of the years that followed, the musical charts escalating division and military crackdowns. Along the way, the young revolutionaries of Cairo must weigh the cost of how and why they will keep their dreams of political reform alive.

The musical comes to New York following its original production at A.R.T., where the Boston Herald said it’s a “smart, tight musical balancing nuanced relationships and grand, global ideas that could debut on Broadway tomorrow.” Tickets to We Live in Cairo will be on sale soon.
