Get Gypsy tickets and see the incomparable Audra McDonald star as Momma Rose in what is widely celebrated one of the greatest musicals ever written. Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe directs this new production that features an infectious score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim and sharp book by Arthur Laurents.
Here she is, boys; here she is, world: Experience McDonald in Gypsy on Broadway. Musical theatre royalty, McDonald is a six-time Tony Award winner famed for her versatile performances in dramas and musicals alike, including Ragtime, A Raisin in the Sun, and Master Class. Also a Grammy and Emmy award winner, McDonald now takes a star turn for the ages: as Momma Rose, McDonald embodies the stage mother to end all stage mothers in this based-on-a-true story of the life of burlesque icon Gypsy Rose Lee.
Bringing together a trifecta of musical theatre writers — Laurents, Sondheim, and Styne — Gypsy is a timeless story of ambition, family, and the irresistible nature of show business. A visionary director, Wolfe made a name for himself directing the original Broadway production of Angels in America. He now returns to Broadway with another great American tale. The production features choreography by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown (Hell’s Kitchen, for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf).
Spanning the childhood and career of a famed stripper, Gypsy follows Rose and her unstoppable hunger for fame for her daughters — and love for herself. A beloved classic featuring songs such as “Rose’s Turn,” “If Momma Was Married,” and “Some People,” Gypsy is a Broadway staple that has enjoyed multiple legendary revivals. Now, it’s McDonald’s turn.

Famed musical theatre writers Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics, respectively. Arthur Laurents, hot off of the success of West Side Story, wrote the book.
Three-time Tony Award winner and Broadway legend George C. Wolfe directs the production. He’s also an Emmy nominee and Drama Desk winner.
An age recommendation has yet to be finalized, but all Broadway audiences regardless of show must be four and over.
