Get Floyd Collins tickets and see Adam Guettel’s sweeping, elegiac, and utterly singular musical finally come to Broadway starting this spring. Based on the life of American cave explorer Floyd Collins, the musical of the same name premiered at Playwrights Horizons in the 1990s, became a classic, but has never been seen on Broadway: until now. Floyd Collins tickets will be available on New York Theatre Guide soon.
Only heaven knows how glory goes, as Floyd sings in the finale of this remarkable, transcendent musical. Featuring a bluegrass-inspired score unlike many heard in musical theatre, and directed by visionary Tony Award nominee Tina Landau, who also wrote the book, Floyd Collins is a cult favorite thanks to its unique, true-life story and beautiful score.
Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, Floyd Collins has endured thanks to its legendary cast album. A bio-musical about a cave explorer in Kentucky, 1925, Floyd Collins chased a dream of fame and fortune by turning Sand Cave into a tourist attraction, but he himself becomes the attraction when he gets trapped 200 feet underground. A media whirlwind followed, along with a stunning story of enduring resilience and humanity. With limited access to the outside world, Floyd fights for his sanity, and his life.
A haunting musical from the artist behind The Light in the Piazza, this show will bring Landau back to her roots: she was the original off-Broadway director for the piece and returns to stage it anew. Come along for a tale about the American dream, media sensationalism, and how everyone has a story to tell.
Experience Floyd Collins on Broadway at last, coming to the esteemed Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center starting in March. Tickets to Floyd Collins will go on sale soon with New York Theatre Guide.
