Dakar 2000 off Broadway transports audiences to Senegal on December 31, 1999. There, a naive Peace Corps volunteer survives a car accident…that may not have been an accident at all. Woozy and recovering in the hospital, he soon meets a commanding State Department operative who takes control of his situation — and safety. Despite their different backgrounds and personalities, an unlikely friendship blooms. However, they both have secrets to shield, ones that may endanger their lives. The volunteer gets roped into the darker side of public service, one he can no longer unsee. A thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat with surprises at every turn, Dakar 2000 is a startling world premiere, commissioned by MTC.
Joseph’s play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo was a 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama. He has twice won the Obie Award for Best New American Play, first in 2016 with Guards at the Taj (also a 2016 Lortel Winner for Best Play) and then in 2018 with Describe the Night. May Adrales returns to MTC to direct this new play following hit productions including Vietgone and Poor Yella Rednecks.
Now, the two established artists unite to bring audiences a thrill ride like no other. Audiences can expect richly drawn characters, surprising plot twists, and an intimate show with explosive themes. Tickets to Dakar 2000 will be available on New York Theatre Guide soon.
