Somewhere on a Kentucky farm, long-married couple George (Birney) and Em (Emery) stare up at the night sky. They sip bourbon and reflect on their dogs, children, and land. As the stars come out and the drinks empty, however, they realize they know less about one another than they once thought, undoing the fabric of their relationship as it approaches its later days. A funny, touching, and universal play about love, Lunar Eclipse depicts a specific couple grappling with its identity beneath the cosmos as they look forward to the time they have left.

Obie winner Emery (Ozark) joins this new play, which Birney (Mass) appeared in in Massachusetts in 2023. “The play benefits immensely from the detail and discipline of Birney’s superb performance,” The New York Times wrote. “He doesn’t so much produce emotions as shed them. After nearly 50 years onstage, that’s no surprise.”
