In this world premiere, a brand-new play commissioned by the Atlantic, Tally hasn’t had as much luck as she would have thought. An aspiring actress, she has struggled to book jobs, turning her into more of a gig worker despite her high hopes and talents. A down-and-out spell sends her back home, to her rural, small town roots, where life is a bit slower…but perhaps not less exciting.

Once back home, Tally turns to online dating and swipes right on a disgraced high school teacher who is fresh out of an anklet bracelet. With some more freedoms, the teacher begins a spiky relationship, and in Rosebrock’s new romcom, any path forward is possible. A refreshing, honest, and twisted play, Lowcountry chronicles the psychic distress of looking for love in the digital age and the carceral state.

Hailing from the Carolinas, Rosebrock (author of Dido of Idaho) is intimately familiar with the worlds of her plays, as seen with Blue Ridge, another work set in the East Coast mountains. She collaborates with Bonney, a new-play advocate and the winner of two Obie Awards, for this highly anticipated return to the Atlantic, a theatre celebrated for its Broadway transfers, like Kimberly Akimbo, Spring Awakening, and The Band’s Visit.
