Get Goddess tickets on New York Theatre Guide when they go on sale to see this acclaimed new musical based on the myth of Marimba, the deity who created gorgeous songs out of her heartbreak. One of the most highly anticipated shows of the season following its successful bows out of town, Goddess the musical plays at The Public Theater starting this spring for its New York premiere.
Feel the heat, hear the beat: Amber Iman, a Tony Award nominee best known for her role in Lempika, stars in this new musical. The original musical Goddess features the all-star team that created New York’s Free Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Merry Wives (as seen in HBO documentary Reopening Night). Conceived and directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali, featuring music and lyrics by Michael Thurber and a book by Tony Award nominee Jocelyn Bioh, Goddess follows a mysterious singer who arrives at Moto Moto, a steamy Afro-jazz club in Mombasa, Kenya. There, the enchanting woman casts a spell on everyone she meets, including a young man who has returned home from studying in America. After crossing paths, will the woman's spell upend the man's big plans of beginning his political legacy and marrying his fiancée?
Goddess is a rousing tale of romance, the supernatural, and the quest to find and become one’s truest self. Featuring a cast of rising stars, this is an ensemble — and shimmering production — not to miss.
Experience Goddess off Broadway to see a show that "finds fulfillment and riches from the fact that love happens at all — that it can make us unselfish, even for one fateful moment," per the San Francisco Chronicle. "The most stunning achievement is that in promising a goddess of music, it delivers.” Tickets to Goddess in New York will be available here soon.
