It’s 1943, and the Allied Forces are on the ropes. Luckily, they’ve got a trick up their sleeve. Well, not up their sleeve, per se, but rather inside the pocket of a stolen corpse. The musical is destined to become a cult classic and has already won the 2024 Olivier Award and 2024 Whatsonstage Award for Best New Musical. Many other accolades followed for this musical, which is equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper. (And Mr. Fleming himself provides an assist.)
The musical is based on Operation Mincemeat, the 1943 British deception operation that disguised the Allied invasion of Sicily. This effort helped the Allies win the war — and lead to a winning musical comedy unlike any other. A history lesson this is not.
Earning raves, The Stage called the show "a brilliant spy thriller, a brilliant comedy, and a brilliant musical all rolled into one,” and the Daily Express hailed it as a "major triumph" and "sheer perfection.” Tickets to Operation Mincemeat in New York will be available here soon.
