Obie Award winner Morgan Green (School Pictures) directs this premiere by rising playwright Caitlin Saylor Stephens, whose works The New York Times has called “taut and brutal.”

Experience Five Models in Ruins, 1981 off Broadway and see Marvel star as Roberta, a model who just landed a cover shoot for Vogue. However, not everything is so rosy from there: the photo location is a nightmare. The other models are vicious. Hair and makeup is somehow missing. And, worst of all, the cigarette supply is running dangerously low.

It all makes for a lot of comedy and chaos, but also introspection: as the photo shoot goes on, Roberta must find the strength (and the perfect light) to capture a moment of transcendent beauty in a brutal world.

Set against the backdrop of Princess Di’s wedding, the play reveals how the rest of Europe is not as peachy as those storied nuptials. Painting with darkness and light, Stephens has crafted a singular play about perceptions of beauty, and the realities they nonetheless bring about. Green makes for a strong partner for this show as she’s previously worked on daring new works, including at Playwrights Horizons and The Bushwick Starr. Now, she makes her LCT debut with Stephens’ premiere.

Audiences are also in for a treat seeing Marvel return to the stage: a three-time Obie winner, she is a theatre veteran and also a screen star, appearing in hit films and TV shows including House of Cards, Homeland, Burn After Reading, True Grit, Lincoln, and others.
