Tony Award winner Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Boulevard) directs Much Ado About Nothing in New York after its acclaimed London bow — The Standard called it "triumphant and joyful." Now, Much Ado About Nothing plays for ten weeks only this fall in New York.
In Much Ado About Nothing on Broadway, two sets of lovers try to sort through rumors, gossip, and plenty of verbal banter before finally uniting. A cherished play with a vibrant cast young and old, Shakespeare's classic endures because of its timeless look at romance and comedy.
Jamie Lloyd is known for directing revivals with rather stark and stunning designs, as with Betrayal (which also starred Hiddleston), Sunset Boulevard, and Waiting for Godot. This comedy, however, is a confetti cannon of color and fun. "Working with both Tom and Hayley again on Much Ado About Nothing at the Drury Lane was exhilarating," the Tony Award winner said in a statement. "The chemistry between the two of them was palpable from the first rehearsal and I could sense it was a magical pairing for the ages. It’s an honor to bring their joyous performances in Shakespeare’s beloved comedy to Broadway this fall."
The hilarious play broke records during its London run, earned rave reviews, and was also nominated for four Critics' Circle Awards, including for Lloyd and both leading actors. Many outlets awarded the show five stars, including The Telegraph, The London Standard, The Guardian, Financial Times, and Time Out, who named the play the “#1 Best Show of the Year."
