1984 begins performances at Hudson Theatre tonight

The Broadway transfer of George Orwell's 1984, adapted and directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, begins previews at the Hudson Theatre tonight, ahead of an official opening on June 22 and a limited engagement through to October 8, 2017.

1984 lands on Broadway following four engagements in the West End, including runs at the Almeida Theatre in north London.

The cast of 1984 includes Tony and Olivier Award nominee Tom Sturridge (as Winston Smith), Olivia Wilde (as Julia) and Tony Award winner Reed Birney (as O'Brien), alongside Wayne Duvall (as Parsons), Carl Hendrick Louis (as Martin), Nick Mills (as Syme), Michael Potts (as Charrington), and Cara Seymour (as Mrs. Parsons).

Based on the best-selling 1949 novel by George Orwell, 1984 depicts "a dystopian future where critical thought is suppressed under a totalitarian regime." The chilling thriller has sold more than 30 million copies across the globe and has been translated into more than 65 languages.

The creative team behind 1984 features scenic & costume design by Chloe Lamford, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Tom Gibbons, and video design by Tim Reid.
