All the times Sarah Snook did theatre
The Australian actress makes her Broadway debut in 2025 in The Picture of Dorian Gray, playing 26 roles in this one-person adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic.
Succession Emmy Award winner Sarah Snook is getting ready to multitask. In March, the acclaimed Australian actress makes her Broadway debut playing 26 roles in a daring stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Adapted and directed by Sydney Theatre Company’s artistic director Kip Williams, the production blends video and live theatre and arrives in New York following a celebrated London run in early 2024.
The classic story follows the title character’s dark bargain to remain forever youthful. Snook, known for such films as The Dressmaker and Pieces of a Woman, has described the play as a tale of “morality, innocence, narcissism, and consequence.” Those are heady subjects — and as we’ve seen from Snook’s work on screen, she’s up to the challenge.
The Picture of Dorian Gray begins performances March 10, 2025 at the Music Box Theatre. In the meantime, learn more about Snook’s noteworthy theatre roles, and be sure to get tickets to see her shapeshift between characters all at once.

King Lear
At Sydney’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, Snook acted in productions of Macbeth and Gallipoli, maintaining her focus on acting after graduating by performing in Shakepeare’s King Lear in 2009. Snook played the faithful daughter Cordelia and the Fool in a State Theatre Company of South Australia revival. Her performance was described as a “strong counterpart” to Lear’s two vengeful daughters.
The Master Builder
In 2016, Snook made the leap to the London stage when she played Hilde Wangel in a revival of this brooding Henrik Ibsen drama. Staged at The Old Vic in the West End, Snook starred opposite Ralph Fiennes in this story of an aging architect. As the young woman who upends the builder’s life, Snook delivers “a stage-owning performance,” one critic raved.
Saint Joan
In 2018, Snook starred in a Sydney Theatre Company revival of George Bernard Shaw’s dramatization of Joan of Arc’s rise as a visionary leader and ultimate martyrdom. “Sarah Snook is an unequivocal sensation in the role … marvellously incisive with the delivery of each line” said one critic.
Succession
Stories of multigenerational dysfunction have fueled many great American plays. This much-admired HBO series about the family behind a global media and entertainment conglomerate fighting for control of the future has all the stuff of great theatrical dramas — and many of the actors in them, as numerous other Succession stars have appeared in Broadway and West End shows.
Snook won an Emmy Award for her depiction of the savvy “Shiv” Roy. Kieran Culkin, who played her brother, also takes the Broadway stage this season in Glengarry Glen Ross.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray follows young Dorian, who wishes his portrait would age instead of him. His dream comes true, but the portrait reflects his corruption and decay. Eventually, his guilt consumes him.
Snook won an Olivier Award for her mighty star turn in the show in London’s West End in early 2024. She reprises her role on Broadway in March 2025, and it's an unmissable performance.
