'Almost Famous' to close on Broadway
The musical is based on Cameron Crowe's same-named film.
They'll be rocking out for the last time. Almost Famous on Broadway has set a closing date of January 8 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
The musical, adapted from Cameron Crowe's beloved 2000 film, follows teenage journalist William Miller as he goes on tour with the band Stillwater. He begins to lose his objectivity, however, as he gets swept up in the glitzy chaos of the 1970s rock scene and falls for groupie Penny Lane.
A review of the show on New York Theatre Guide reads, "Even when it’s blurry, Almost Famous has smart things to say about the power of music, weirdness of celebrity, force of family, and bittersweetness of life."
Crowe made his Broadway debut with Almost Famous, adapting his own Oscar-winning screenplay and writing lyrics. Pulitzer- and Tony-winning composer Tom Kitt wrote original music; the show also features existing rock hits from the film, including "Tiny Dancer."
The Almost Famous Broadway cast is led by Casey Likes as William Miller, Chris Wood as Russell Hammond, Anika Larsen as Elaine Miller, Solea Pfeiffer as Penny Lane, Drew Gehling as Jeff Bebe, and Rob Colletti as Lester Bangs.
An Almost Famous cast recording is still set for release on March 17.
