'american (tele)visions' sets Off-Broadway cast
The world-premiere play opens in September.
The full cast and creative team have been set for american (tele)visions, the first show in New York Theatre Workshop's Off-Broadway season. Performances run from September 9 to October 16, with opening night on September 29.
The cast includes Clew, Raúl Castillo, Ryan J. Haddad, Elia Monte-Brown, and Bianca "b" Norwood. The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Bretta Gerecke; specialty costume designer Mondo Guerra; lighting designer Jeanette Yew; technology designers Justin Nestor, Alex Hawthorn, and Kelly Colburn; fight director J. David Brimmer; intimacy director Andy Arden-Reese; and voice and text coach Dawn-Elin Fraser.
american (tele)visions tells the story of an undocumented Mexican family, but as a multiversal tale in which the characters move through time, TV screens, store aisles, and video games, real and imaginary. The main character is Erica, who shares this story as a memory play — a play in which a character looks back on past events that come to life on stage — while walking through a Walmart. The show is by Victor I. Cazares, and Rubén Polendo directs.
