'BOOP! The Musical' names main Broadway cast
The original musical, based on the famous cartoon character Betty Boop, will bring back the principal actors from its world-premiere run in Chicago last year.
BOOP! The Musical on Broadway has named its principal cast, all of whom return to the show from its world premiere in Chicago last year. Broadway performances begin at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 11 ahead of an April 5 opening.
The BOOP! Broadway cast includes Jasmine Amy Rogers as Betty Boop, Tony Award winner Faith Prince as Valentina, Ainsley Melham as Dwayne, Erich Bergen as Raymond, Stephen DeRosa as Grampy, Anastacia McCleskey as Carol, Angelica Hale as Trisha, Phillip Huber as Pudgy the Dog, and Aubie Merrylees as Oscar.
Additional casting has yet to be announced.
Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, BOOP! follows famous cartoon character Betty Boop on her day off from being famous. She leaves her black-and-white world for an adventure filled with color, music, and love in New York City.
BOOP! The Musical is inspired by the character created by Max Fleischer. As previously announced, the show's writers include Grammy nominee David Foster (music), Tony nominee Susan Birkenhead (lyrics), and Bob Martin (book).
The creative team also includes set designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Finn Ross, hair and wig designer Sabana Majeed, makeup designer Michael Clifton, and illusion designer Skylar Fox.
The show also features marionette design by The Huber Marionettes, music supervision and arrangements by Daryl Waters, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, music direction by Rick Fox, and dance music arrangements by Zane Mark.
