Brian d'Arcy James joins Maya Hawke in 'Eurydice' off Broadway
Complete casting has been announced for Signature Theatre's production of Sarah Ruhl's reimagining of a classic Greek myth, beginning performances in May.
Complete casting has been set for Eurydice off Broadway starring the previously announced Maya Hawke. The revival of Sarah Ruhl's play, presented by Signature Theatre, runs at the Pershing Square Signature Center from May 13 to June 22.
Joining the Stranger Things star in the title role are five-time Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James (Days of Wine and Roses, Hamilton, Something Rotten!) as Eurydice's father, Caleb Eberhardt as Orpheus, T. Ryder Smith as A Nasty Interesting Man/The Lord of the Underworld, Maria Elena Ramirez as Loud Stone, David Ryan Smith as Big Stone, and Jon Norman Schneider as Little Stone.
The creative team includes set designer Scott Bradley, sound designer Bray Poor, costume designer Oana Botez, lighting designer Reza Behjat, and co-hair, wig, and makeup designers Krystal Balleza and Will Vicari of The Wig Associates. Bradley and Poor both worked on Eurydice's world-premiere production nearly 20 years ago.
Directed by Les Waters, Ruhl's Eurydice reframes the ancient Greek myth in which the musician Orpheus descends to the underworld to rescue his dead lover of the title. In this version, Eurydice reunites with her deceased father, complicating her decision of whether she wants to go back to the world of the living.
