'Buena Vista Social Club' sets Off-Broadway cast
A company of performers from across the world tell the story of the titular Cuban music group and its pioneering, Grammy Award-winning self-titled album.
Atlantic Theater Company has set the full cast for its world-premiere musical Buena Vista Social Club at the Linda Gross Theater. Performances run from November 17 to December 31, with opening night on December 13.
The full Buena Vista Social Club cast, featuring performers from all over the world, includes Skizzo Arnedillo, Renesito Avich, Natalie Belcon, Angélica Beliard, Kenya Browne, Danaya Esperanza, Carlos Sanchez Falú, Jared Machado, Hector Juan Maisonet, Ilda Mason, Marielys Molina, Julio Monge, Leonardo Reyna, Mel Semé, Olly Sholotan, Jainardo Batista Sterling, Nancy Ticotin, and Luis Vega.
As previously announced, Saheem Ali directs the musical, which features a book by Marco Ramirez, music by Buena Vista Social Club, choreography by Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck, and music production by David Yazbek.
The creative team also includes set designer Arnulfo Maldonado, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau, sound designer Jonathan Deans, music supervisor Dean Sharenow, music director Marco Paguia, wig, hair, and makeup designer J. Jared Janas, dialect creator Rosie Berrido, vocal coach Dawn-Elin Fraser, and props designer Matt Carlin.
Buena Vista Social Club tells the true story of the Cuban music group of the same name. Featuring songs from the group's Grammy Award-winning self-titled album, the show dramatizes how the group's sound ignited a golden age of music in Cuba and soon became an international sensation.
