Daniel Radcliffe to star in 'Merrily We Roll Along' at New York Theatre Workshop
Daniel Radcliffe is back on Broadway! The Harry Potter star, who has since appeared in numerous New York and London shows and films, will return off Broadway in a revival of Merrily We Roll Along as Charley. The Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical will open at New York Theatre Workshop in late 2022, with dates and additional casting to be announced.
Radcliffe last appeared on the New York stage in 2018, when he starred as Jim Fingal in The Lifespan of a Fact on Broadway. He has also appeared in shows like How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway and The Cripple of Inishmaan and Equus on Broadway and in London's West End. Since rising to fame in the titular role of Harry Potter, he's starred in a diverse array of films including Kill Your Darlings, The Woman in Black, and Swiss Army Man.
Merrily We Roll Along marks Radcliffe's first appearance in a musical since How to Succeed in 2011, and his second Off-Broadway appearance after 2016's Privacy at The Public Theater. Merrily is based on a play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, and it takes place over the span of 30 years. The show follows the relationship between three figures in the entertainment industry: composer Franklin Shepard, writer Mary, and lyricist and playwright Charley.
