‘Dead Outlaw’ musical to transfer to Broadway
The musical, which premiered off Broadway in February, won four Best Musical honors and will now come to the Longacre Theatre beginning in April 2025.
The Wild West is coming to Broadway! Dead Outlaw, an award-winning Off-Broadway musical from the 2023-24 season, is set to transfer to Broadway. Performances begin April 12 ahead of an April 27 opening at the Longacre Theatre.
Dead Outlaw tells the unbelievable true story of Elmer McCurdy, a man more famous in death than in life. Dubbed “The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up,” he was a bank and train robber who died at 31 — and then his body became a traveling sideshow attraction for 40 years.
The Western musical is the latest work from the creators of The Band’s Visit, which played on Broadway in 2017 and won 10 Tony Awards in 2018. They include director David Cromer, bookwriter Itamar Moses, and composer/lyricist David Yazbek, who penned the songs for Dead Outlaw with Erik Della Penna.
Dead Outlaw premiered at the Minetta Lane Theatre in February 2024 for a limited run. The show won Best Musical honors at the Drama Desk, New York Drama Critics’ Circle, Outer Critics Circle, and Off Broadway Alliance Awards.
The Off-Broadway Dead Outlaw cast also included Jeb Brown, Eddie Cooper, Dashiell Eaves, Julia Knitel, Ken Marks, Trent Saunders, and Thom Sesma. Casting and additional creative team for the Broadway production has yet to be announced.
