‘Elf’ to play limited Broadway run this holiday season
The musical adaptation of the beloved Christmas film starring Will Ferrell has played two holiday runs in New York before, most recently in the 2012-13 season.
The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear! The musical Elf will return to Broadway this holiday season, with performances running from November 9 to January 4 at the Marquis Theatre, with opening night on November 17.
Elf is adapted from the 2003 film of the same name, which stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human who was raised as an elf at the North Pole. When he travels to New York City to find his dad, he learns about the human world — sometimes the hard way — and spreads Christmas magic where it’s needed the most.
The Elf musical premiered on Broadway in November 2010, playing a brief holiday run through January 2011, and did the same in 2012-13. The show features music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a script by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, adapted from David Berenbaum’s screenplay.
Tony Award nominee Grey Henson, known for appearing in the Broadway musicals Mean Girls and Shucked, will star as Buddy the Elf. Additional casting for the 2024 Elf Broadway revival has yet to be announced.
“Elf has always been required yearly viewing for me, and I am so honored and excited to be fulfilling a lifelong dream of wearing tights on Broadway!" Henson said in a statement.
Elf also features direction by Philip Wm. McKinley, who previously staged the musical in London's West End; choreography by Liam Steel, set and costume design by Tim Goodchild, lighting design by Patrick Woodroffe, sound design by Gareth Owen, video design by Ian William Galloway, and music supervision by Alan Williams.
