'English' sets complete Broadway cast

The Broadway premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be presented by Roundabout Theatre Company for a limited time starting in January 2025.

Roundabout Theatre Company has named the complete cast for its production of English on Broadway, running for 66 performances only at the Todd Haimes Theatre. Performances begin January 3 ahead of a January 23 opening.

The cast, all of whom reprise their roles from the show's 2022 world premiere with Atlantic Theatre Company, includes Tala Ashe as Elham, Ava Lalezarzadeh as Goli, Pooya Mohseni as Roya, Marjan Neshat as Marjan, and Hadi Tabbal as Omid.

Winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Sanaz Toossi's English follows a group of four adult students in an Iranian classroom, all of whom are preparing for the Test of English as a Foreign Language. They work to attain fluency through word games, show and tell sessions, and listening exercises, but learning English may sooner complicate their identity rather than complete it.

The play features direction by Knud Adams, scenic design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Enver Chakartash, lighting design by Reza Behjat, and sound design by Sinan Refik Zafar. All the creatives also return from the Off-Broadway run.
