Greg Kinnear to make his Broadway debut in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'
Kinnear will succeed Jeff Daniels in the role of Atticus Finch.
All rise for Greg Kinnear! The Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor will play Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird beginning on January 5, 2022. Tony nominee and original cast member Jeff Daniels, who is currently playing his second engagement as Atticus, will play his final performance on January 2.
To Kill a Mockingbird marks Kinnear's stage debut after a 30-plus-year career on screen. Kinnear's breakout film role was as David Larrabee in the Sydney Pollack remake of Sabrina, opposite Harrison Ford. He followed it up with the role of Simon Bishop in the James L. Brooks comedy As Good as It Gets, which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
Kinnear has also appeared in films such as You've Got Mail, Mystery Men, Nurse Betty, The Gift, Someone Like You, and Little Miss Sunshine, and in TV series including House of Cards as Bill Shepherd and The Kennedys as John F. Kennedy. From 1991 to 1995, he worked on the E! show Talk Soup, which won an Emmy Award.
Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of Harper Lee's classic novel sees Atticus Finch, an Alabama attorney in the 1930s, defend a Black man accused of raping a white woman. The play follows the trial and the hatred Tom (the defendant), Atticus, and his family received from their intolerant neighbors, as recalled by Atticus's young daughter, Scout. To Kill a Mockingbird, directed by Bartlett Sher, was nominated for nine Tony Awards at the 2019 ceremony and is currently playing at the Shubert Theatre.
