Jean Smart to star in 'Call Me Izzy' on Broadway this summer
The six-time Emmy Award winner will return to the Broadway stage for the first time in 25 years in this one-woman show for 12 weeks only beginning in May.
Call her a Broadway star! Jean Smart will return to the New York stage in the one-woman show Call Me Izzy on Broadway, playing a limited run at Studio 54 from May 24 to August 17 only. Opening night is June 12.
Smart last appeared on Broadway 25 years ago, giving a Tony Award-nominated performance in 2000's The Man Who Came to Dinner, and made her debut in 1981's Piaf. She is best known, however, for her screen roles as Lana Gardner in Frasier, Regina Newley in Samantha Who?, and Deborah Vance in Hacks, which collectively won her six Emmy Awards. Other notable TV credits include Designing Women and Fargo, Watchmen, and Mare of Easttown.
In Call Me Izzy, Smart plays a rural Louisiana woman displaying her humor, tenacity, and imagination as she grapples with a secret that is both her greatest gift and her ticket out.
Call Me Izzy is written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine. Additional creative team members have yet to be announced.
