Kristin Chenoweth, F. Murray Abraham to star in ‘The Queen of Versailles’ on Broadway
The Tony Award-winning actress and Oscar-winning actor played socialites Jackie and David Siegel in the musical's world premiere in Boston in summer 2024.
They're the queen and king of Broadway! Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham will star in the new musical The Queen of Versailles on Broadway this spring, reprising her performance from the show’s world premiere in Boston in summer 2024. Broadway performances will begin at the St. James Theatre on October 8. A red carpet celebration will take place November 9 ahead of the press opening the next day.
Chenoweth is best known for her Tony Award-nominated performance as Glinda in Wicked and Tony-winning performance as Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown on Broadway. Her TV credits include playing Annabeth Schott in The West Wing and an Emmy-winning performance as Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies.
Abraham is an Oscar winner for starring in the film Amadeus and an Emmy nominee for his performances in the TV shows Homeland and The White Lotus. He last appeared on Broadway in 2014's It's Only a Play, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination.
In The Queen of Versailles, Chenoweth plays socialite, beauty queen, model, and TV personality Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel opposite Abraham as her husband, David Siegel. The Queen of Versailles musical is based on Lauren Greenfield’s award-winning 2012 documentary of the same name about the couple.
The Siegels for their private residence, called Versailles and built as a replica of the same-named French palace, to be the largest single-family home in America. However, their lavish lifestyle hangs in danger as the Great Recession of 2008 hits.
The musical reunites Chenoweth with Wicked composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz. He wrote the score for The Queen of Versailles, and he collaborates with book writer Lindsey Ferrentino and director Michael Arden.
Additionally, the production will feature scenic and video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Christian Cowan, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, hair and wig design by Cookie Jordan, and orchestrations by John Clancy.
Complete Broadway casting for The Queen of Versailles has yet to be announced. Alongside Chenoweth and Abraham, the Boston cast included Melody Butiu (Here Lies Love) as Sofia Flores, Nina White (Kimberly Akimbo) as Victoria Siegel, Stephen DeRosa (Boardwalk Empire) as John, Greg Hildreth (Company) as Gary, Tatum Grace Hopkins as Jonquil, and Isabel Keating (The Boy from Oz) as Debbie.
