Lola Tung to make Broadway debut in 'Hadestown'
The star of the Amazon Prime TV series The Summer I Turned Pretty will join the Tony Award-winning musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre beginning in February.
Wait for her, she's coming! Screen actress Lola Tung will join the Hadestown cast next month, on the heels of her breakout turn as Belly in the hit Amazon Prime TV show The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Tung now makes her Broadway debut as Eurydice in Hadestown, playing a limited engagement from February 9 to March 17. She replaces Solea Pfeiffer, who plays her final performance in the role on February 4.
"I saw Hadestown in February of 2020 and immediately fell in love with the show,” Tung said in a statement. “I’d had dreams of being on Broadway since I performed in my middle school musicals, and after seeing Hadestown, I instantly added it to the little list of dream shows in my mind. The storytelling is beautiful and unique, the music is unbelievably special, and the show is just so moving."
The current Hadestown cast includes Betty Who as Persephone, Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, Pfeiffer as Eurydice, Lillias White as Hermes, Phillip Boykin as Hades, and Lindsey Hailes, Belén Moyano, and Brit West as the Fates. As previously announced, Who will also play her final performance on February 4, and Ani DiFranco will join the cast as Persephone from February 9 to June 30.
Writer Anaïs Mitchell’s and director Rachel Chavkin's Hadestown weaves together multiple Greek myths with modern folk and jazz music. The plot focuses primarily on Orpheus, who takes a dangerous journey to the title Hadestown to rescue his lover, Eurydice. The show won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, in 2019 and is now the longest-running show to ever play at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
