'Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now!' to play off Broadway in November
Three original stars of the award-winning musical Hairspray will reunite for this revue featuring songs from the show and stories about their friendship.
They can't stop the beat! Tony Award nominee Laura Bell Bundy, Tony nominee Kerry Butler, and Tony winner Marissa Jaret Winokur will star in the Off-Broadway revue Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now! this fall. Performances run at New World Stages from November 2 to December 8 only, and opening night is November 13.
Bundy, Butler, and Winokur met while performing in the original cast of the eight-time Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray on Broadway in 2002. They starred as Amber von Tussle, Penny Pingleton, and Tracy Turnblad, respectively, with Winokur winning the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.
Now, the three will reunite for Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now!, named for a Hairspray song. The revue will feature the women singing songs from the show as well as never-before-heard mashups and parodies, all in celebration of the show that launched their longtime friendship.
The three women have 16 total Broadway credits between them. Winokur made her Broadway debut in Grease; Bundy went on to earn a Tony nomination for playing Elle Woods in Legally Blonde on Broadway; and Butler earned a nod for Xanadu.
Mama, I’m A Big Girl Now! features musical direction by Andrew Byrne and is produced by Lisa Dozier Shacket.
