'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' sets new Broadway casting
Four principal cast members, including Tony winner Aaron Tveit, will depart the show May 8.
Welcome to the Moulin Rouge! Four new cast members will join the principal cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical on May 10, replacing four current members departing the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on May 8.
As previously announced, departing the cast are Tony Award winner Aaron Tveit as Christian, Natalie Mendoza as Satine, Tam Mutu as the Duke, and Ricky Rojas as Santiago. Stepping into their roles are Derek Klena, a 2020 Tony nominee for Jagged Little Pill; Ashley Loren; Declan Bennett; and original Moulin Rouge! The Musical cast member Caleb Marshall-Villarreal, respectively.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical, at the Hirschfeld since 2019, won 10 2020 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film follows the writer Christian as he gets swept up in lavish, bohemian world of the Moulin Rouge nightclub in turn-of-the-20th-century Paris. While there, he meets the star showgirl Satine, and the two fall into a whirlwind, star-crossed romance that's threatened by the Duke's own desire for Satine.
