'Ohio State Murders' sets Broadway closing date
The show, which stars Audra McDonald, plays the James Earl Jones Theatre.
The Broadway premiere of Ohio State Murders, starring six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, is set to close on Broadway this month. The show will play its final performance on January 15.
McDonald stars in Ohio State Murders as Suzanne Alexander, a writer returning to her alma mater of the title. While delivering a lecture there, she looks back on a tragic crime that took place while she was a student and finally pieces together what happened.
A four-star New York Theatre Guide review of Ohio State Murders reads, "There is a palpable, thinly veiled rage simmering beneath most of McDonald's expertly layered performance... McDonald is so transformative that in her few moments of bygone joy... we momentarily forget Suzanne's anger."
The play marks playwright Adrienne Kennedy's Broadway debut at 91 years old, following a decades-long, award-winning Off-Broadway career. Ohio State Murders is also the first production to play the newly renovated and renamed James Earl Jones Theatre.
The complete cast for Ohio State Murders includes Bryce Pinkham, Lizan Mitchell, Mister Fitzgerald, Abigail Stephenson, Brett Diggs, Brooke Gardner, Christina Pedersen, and Gayle Samuels.
Ohio State Murders joins five other Broadway shows closing on that date: The Music Man, Death of a Salesman, A Strange Loop, Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man and the Pool, and Topdog/Underdog.
