Old Hats by Bill Irwin and David Shiner



Signature Theatre has announced the world premiere of Old Hats, created and performed by Tony Award winner Bill Irwin (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) and David Shiner, with music by and featuring Nellie McKay, and direction by Tina Landau.

Old Hats opens at the Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage on 04 Mar 2013, following previews from 12 Feb 2013, and runs through to 31 Mar 2013. The show was originally scheduled to play from 30 Oct 2012 through 9 Dec 2012.

The press notes describe the show has, "Irwin reunites with fellow clown David Shiner for a new work combining their inimitable magic, slapstick, and hilarity. Using music, technology, and movement, plus other tricks up their sleeves, Irwin and Shiner create another wild and remarkable outing of theatre for a new generation of audiences."

Irwin and Shiner first collaborated together on their show 'Fool Moon,' which they performed on Broadway in 1993, 1995 and 1998. The show won the 1999 Special Tony Award for Live Theatrical Presentation.

The design team for Old Hats includes G.W. Mercier (Scenic and Costume Design), Peter Kaczorowski (Lighting Design) and John Gromada (Sound Design).

Irwin won a Tony Award for his role as 'George' in the 2005 revival of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' His show 'Largely New York' earned him 1989 Tony nominations for Best Play , Best Actor, and Best Director. His other Broadway credits include: 'Bye Bye Birdie,' 'Waiting for Godot,' 'The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?,' 'The Regard of Flight' and 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist.'

Shiner's Broadway credits include 'Fool Moon' and 'Seussical. His film and TV credits include "Man of the House," "Lorenzo's Oil" and "Silent Tongue."
