Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Oh to star in 'Twelfth Night'
The summer 2025 Off-Broadway production, part of The Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park series, will reopen the Delacorte Theater after renovations.
The Public Theater has announced initial casting for its production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night set to run at Central Park's Delacorte Theater in August 2025. Exact dates for the Free Shakespeare in the Park production have yet to be announced.
The star-studded cast includes Peter Dinklage as Malvolio, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Andrew Aguecheek, Lupita Nyong’o as Viola, and Sandra Oh as Olivia. Additional casting and creative team members will be announced this fall.
Twelfth Night follows shipwrecked twins Viola and Sebastian and their quest to reunite. In the meantime, Viola disguises herself as a man to enter the court of Duke Orsino, leading to mistaken identities, tangled webs of romance, and plenty of comedy.
"Twelfth Night is the epitome of joy,” director Saheem Ali said in a statement. “It also happens to be the first production I ever saw at the Delacorte, as a college student taking the Chinatown bus from Boston. I’m delighted to be reuniting with my dear friend Lupita Nyong’o, joined by fellow Public Theater alums Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Sandra Oh. Free Shakespeare in the Park is a gift to our city."
The play will be the first at the newly reopened Delacorte Theater, which has been closed this summer for renovations. As with all past Shakespeare in the Park productions, all tickets are free and distributed via various online and in-person lotteries.
