'Redwood,' starring Idina Menzel, completes Broadway cast
The new musical, which premiered at California's La Jolla Playhouse earlier this year, will come to New York in January with multiple actors returning.
Redwood on Broadway has named the complete cast joining previously announced star Idina Menzel. Performances begin at the Nederlander Theatre January 24 ahead of a February 13 opening.
Alongside Tony Award winner Menzel as Jesse are De’Adre Aziza as Mel, Michael Park as Finn, Zachary Noah Piser as Spencer, and Khaila Wilcoxon as Becca. All but Wilcoxon reprise their roles from Redwood's world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in California earlier this year.
The Redwood Broadway cast also includes Jessica Phillips, Daniel Brackett, Bradley Dean, and Veronica Otim as standbys.
Redwood follows a woman named Jesse who experiences a life-changing event and leaves her career and family behind and escapes to the California redwood forests, where she takes a leap of faith in the hopes of healing.
The musical is created by Tina Landau (book, concept, direction), Kate Diaz (music and lyrics), and Menzel (lyrics, concept, additional contributions).
The Redwood creative team also includes set designer Jason Ardizzone-West, costume designer Toni-Leslie James, lighting designer Scott Zielinski, sound designer Jonathan Deans, video designer Hana S. Kim, music director Julie McBride, music supervisor Tom Kitt, and associate music supervisor Haley Bennett. Orchestrations and arrangements are by Diaz, and vertical movement and vertical choreography are by Melecio Estrella/BANDALOOP.
